Triceratops Brown - RS002
Description
Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, around 68 to 66 million years ago. It is one of the most recognizable and well-known dinosaurs, characterized by its distinctive three-horned face and a large bony frill on the back of its skull.
Triceratops was a herbivore, meaning it ate plants. Its beak-like mouth contained sharp teeth that were adapted for cropping vegetation, such as ferns, cycads, and other low-lying plants. Triceratops likely used its robust beak to bite off plant material, and its teeth were used for further chewing.
Triceratops possessed several defensive adaptations. The three horns on its face were likely used for defense against predators, as well as for intra-species combat during mating or territorial disputes. The large bony frill at the back of its skull may have served to protect the neck and provided additional surface area for muscle attachment.
