Gorillas are large, powerful primates and are the largest living members of the ape family (Hominidae). They are native to the forests of central Africa and are known for their intelligence, social structures, and close genetic similarity to humans.
Gorillas have a robust and muscular build. Adult males, known as silverbacks due to the silver-colored hair on their backs, are larger than females. They have a distinctive sagittal crest on their skulls, which is more prominent in males. They are primarily herbivorous and have a diet consisting of leaves, shoots, fruits, and some insects. They are adapted to life in the forest and spend a significant portion of their day foraging for food. Gorillas live in groups called troops or bands. A troop is typically led by a dominant adult male, the silverback, who is responsible for protecting the group. The troop also includes females and their offspring.
